What is a Dogwood Tree?

Dogwood blooms are not really petals?

Dogwood trees are native to North America.  You can find them in pink, white, or my favorite is when they have been grafted as a hybrid!  Legends have it that even our Lord Jesus was crucified on a dogwood tree and that the bloom shows the “blood” inside of the “petals”.  Actually, the “petals” of a dogwood bloom are actually modified leaves called “bracts” and a dogwood would not grow tall enough to be used in the crucifixion, but regardless… they are beautiful!

Knoxville Dogwood and Arts Festival Information

Every year we look forward to the opening of The Knoxville Dogwood and Arts Festival.  This 67-year-old tradition starts every April and has drawn many folks to Knoxville!  Ask anyone who lives in a home that happens to be part of the 85 miles of trails, designated by the PINK line in the road marking the path to beauty!  Starting April 1, these trails are open for you to enjoy.  Obviously, the dogwood blooms do not always abide by the calendar.  Here is a link to the trails and the maps.  https://www.dogwoodarts.com/trailsandgardens

Southen Skies Music Festival coming to Knoxville
